What Kind of Dentures Will I Need?

There are two primary types of dentures depending on your needs.

Partial Dentures

For our patients that are missing multiple teeth and are not able or willing to replace them with bridges or dental implants, a removable partial denture is a great alternative. A partial denture is a removable prosthesis that replaces multiple missing teeth on the upper and/or lower arch improving the aesthetics and function of your mouth. It mimics your natural teeth and rest perfectly over your existing gums. It typically takes multiple appointments for Dr. Miller to design and fit a set of removable partial dentures. Once completed, you will meet with Dr. Miller to check for proper fit and alignment. After a brief period of adjusting to the feel of your new partial dentures, they will begin to feel more natural.

Complete Dentures

For our patients requiring the replacement of all missing teeth in the upper and/or lower arch of the mouth, a complete denture is an excellent treatment option. A complete denture provides improved aesthetics and function by mimicking the missing teeth in your mouth. It typically takes multiple appointments for Dr. Miller to design and fit a set of removable complete dentures. Once completed, you will meet with Dr. Miller to check for proper fit and alignment, which usually requires multiple visits. After a brief period of adjusting to the feel of your new dentures, they will begin to feel more natural.

Maintenance

Taking proper care of your removable complete or partial dentures at home is vital for your dentures and your oral health. If the dentures are not cleaned properly they may become damaged or develop bacterial deposits. Carefully brush and rinse your dentures daily with water and a denture cream to help remove plaque and any food particles from building up on your dentures. At night it is important to place your dentures in water or a denture soaking solution. This will help prevent bacterial growth and staining of your dentures. Scheduling regular check-ups with Dr. Miller is an important part of denture care. She is able to check for any discrepancies in fit and make the proper adjustments as well as professionally clean your dentures to ensure that they last a long time.
